February 16 -19, 2023
Maunabo, Puerto Rico

Do You find yourself…

Burnt-out, lacking motivation to do the work, drained before the day gets started?

Desiring face-to-face connection and community with like-minded trauma treatment professionals?

Wanting to take your trauma treatment skills deeper and truly embody the skills needed to be successful with your clients?

You don’t have to figure out how to “pump yourself up” to do this work.

Trauma treatment is hard work, and the last two and a half years have been long and hard. Your clients’ demands for support and healing have left you feeling  DRAINED, BURNT OUT, and SECOND GUESSING your desire to help.

There’s an EASIER way to meet the needs of your trauma clients, while feeling connected to yourself and sustained in your passion for your work.

We’ve created a retreat that gives you the space, support, and skills you need to sustain your passion and joy over time in trauma treatment.

Say Yes to Your Well-being

Stop waiting for something to magically happen so you can get the space, support, and skills you need to do the work you desire in a way that feels nourishing and fulfilling to you.

Be intentional and take this opportunity to get what you need.

How Our Time Will Be Spent Together

The morning will start with an optional yoga/gentle stretching practice with the backdrop of the ocean. This will be followed by a delicious breakfast and time for us to gently transition into the start of our day.

The first half of the day will be keynotes with Nina to help you gain, develop, and hone some key trauma treatment skills.  This time will also help you prepare for our breakout sessions in the afternoon.

We will then break mid-day for lunch and have a delicious meal together, where we can network and get to know one another a little more, if you would like, or you can take time to yourself before our afternoon session.

The afternoons are dedicated to learning through demos with Nina and hands-on practice. During our afternoon breakout sessions, we will have the opportunity to practice the skills we’ve learned in dyads and triads. Nina will be able to give live support during this time.

Once our practice time is over, we will have dinner together followed by an evening closing circle. Then we will spend the rest of our day laying by the pool, taking sunset walks, playing games, and just connecting and relaxing.

We want to make this experience as relaxing and simple as possible.

Simply arrive in San Juan, Puerto Rico at Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport within a certain window of time, we will greet you there, and everything else will be taken care of for you.

This is not just another opportunity to get training. This is a retreat created with your well-being in mind.  You will get the training you need, but also the space, pace, and support you need to truly embody the skills .

Your exclusive invitation to this time includes:

4 Days/3 Nights

Come enjoy beachfront property in Maunabo, Puerto Rico. The hotel provides a full bar (at additional cost), beach access, sand volleyball courts, green space, and an infinity pool overlooking the ocean.

All Meals Included

You will be provided with all meals from the time of arrival to the property up until your departure. If there are special dietary restrictions, they can be accommodated.

Participate in 2 days of training broken up into morning learning sessions, demos, and afternoon practice sessions.

Not only will you hear about the techniques and skills, but you will actually get the opportunity to practice and gain direct “in-the-moment” feedback from Nina in the afternoon practice sessions.

Participate in optional morning yoga/ gentle stretching with the ocean as your backdrop. Then close the day with a closing circle to help you reflect on the learning, connection, and relaxation of the day.

Engage in deep connection and conversation with other like-minded trauma treatment professionals during the retreat in a multitude of ways.

You will receive a call two weeks out from the retreat to ensure you are clear on what to bring, when and where to arrive, and how to make the most out of your time.

Our Destination

A Couple of Important Things You Should Know About Visiting an Island…

  • The pace is slower and the people are rarely in a rush.
  • Most water is heated by solar energy so on overcast days the showers can be a little luke-warm.
  • Due to Puerto Rico’s continual recovery efforts from natural disasters, the power could go out briefly, but it is always a great time to get out and enjoy the land.
  • Everything and everybody thrives on an island so be aware of the rare appearance of bugs and spiders.  They don’t bother you… they are just passing through.

We will travel to an all-inclusive family owned/operated hotel, Parador Mauna Caribe, on the southeast side of Puerto Rico. It is located on the coast with beachfront access and an infinity pool for you to enjoy during your stay.

Limited to 12 participants – this will help us to offer an intimate and refreshing learning experience. This will also allow you to have personalized support from Nina, and truly connect with all those in attendance.

Others’ Experience of TTC's Services for Professionals

Hi, I’m Nina and I am looking forward to hosting YOU!

I received my Master’s of Science from Kansas State University with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy.  During my time in graduate school, I fell in love with Play Therapy.  I completed a Play Therapy certification program through KC Play Therapy Institute.  At the beginning of my career, I worked as a Social Services Case Manager and had the honor of working with many children and families suffering from trauma and attachment challenges.  This led me on a journey to learn about trauma and attachment.  I completed Dr. Dan Hughes’ level one Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy training in Maine.  I then went on to complete Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) training, the Integrative Attachment Trauma Protocol for Children through The Attachment and Trauma Center of Nebraska.  I recently became a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (SEP) and started certification in Dynamic Attachment Re-Patterning Experience (DARe).

I’ve been treating trauma for the past 17 years, and supporting other trauma treatment professionals for 9 years.  I have no desire to stop anytime soon!

I have had the pleasure of living in Puerto Rico for the past two years.  My husband is stationed at Fort Buchanan.  Puerto Rico is, for sure, the perfect place to slow down and recharge.

I can’t wait to host you here!

Frequently Asked Questions?

Everything – you simply arrive to the airport and the rest is taken care of for you!  Your room, food, drinks (one adult beverage on the first night).  Only thing you need to include is your airfare and if you would like an additional glass of wine, cocktail, or beer.

Once Attendee registers for the Retreat, we make extensive arrangements and investments while anticipating their tuition and attendance, and, in the case of their cancellation, we incur significant administration hassles, expenses, and loss of business. Given this fact, we do not accept transfers or cancellations or issue refunds after Attendee has registered for the Retreat. Again, this is due to the extremely limited space for an event of this nature. If you are unsure of whether or not you can attend the event, do not register until you know for sure.

Given the number of our Attendees it’s important for us to maintain this policy. This is our only method to ensure that serious participants signup and that we do not lose business on empty seats.

We have taken measures to ensure the health and safety of guests staying at our experiences. However, there is no way to eliminate the inherent risk of exposure to COVID-19 that comes with an in-person event. By attending this event, you voluntarily agree to assume all risks related to exposure to COVID-19. You agree not to attend if you test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days prior to attending our retreat or display symptoms associated with COVID-19. Bottom line, please be forthcoming to keep us all safe and healthy.

• Trauma Treatment Collective requires all guests to confirm via email (, no cold or flu-like symptoms 48 hours from arrival.
• We recommend obtaining proof of a negative PCR test 72 hours prior to your travel.
• We ask guests to be respectful of other guests and our staff and keep a safe distance. Masks are not required, but we ask that when unable to safely distance from others, guests use their discretion.
• We ask that guests bring their own masks.
• Unfortunately, testing is not fool-proof and might be taken pre-incubation. We must also acknowledge the potential for travel exposure, post-test results/arrival. Although we will not require on-site mask-wearing, we do ask that you wear a mask when appropriate such as heading out into the local community.

All deposits/payments are non-refundable but can be used towards a future Trauma Treatment Collective experience or product until December 31, 2023 with a notice via email.

Trauma Treatment Collective requires all guests to confirm a lack of COVID symptoms 48 hours from arrival via email. Trauma Treatment Collective cannot offer any COVID related credits any later than 48 hours from arrival on-site.

Once onsite if you present symptoms or feel sick then we will ask you to self-isolate and we will provide all the help we can, which may include: help to get you to an off-site accommodation location, test, and treatment if necessary.

We strongly recommend purchasing refundable airline tickets for and also travel insurance that covers all possible issues related to travel including delays or change of schedules.

To take the hassle out of this part of your trip we are partnering with a travel agent, who is available to help you navigate all the details. You can learn more about her services at  This is an optional service, but we HIGHLY recommend it to make sure you are arriving and leaving at the right times.  We cannot accommodate transportation outside of what is outlined below.

We will be providing transportation to and from the airport.  Transportation will arrive to pick us up at 3pm on Feb. 16 from the airport.  Please make sure your plane is landing at least 45 minutes before that time.  Transportation  will then arrive to take us back to the airport at 11am on Feb. 19.  Please give yourself a 3.5  hour window to travel and check in when booking your return flights.

We will greet you at the airport between 1pm and 3pm on Feb. 16th, but you are welcome arrive anytime before 3pm.

We encourage you to either pack a lunch or pick up something to eat in the airport upon arrival as the first meal at the hotel will be dinner.  If you plan to grab lunch in the airport please plan for long lines and wait time, so you are ready to leave at 3pm.

We will be providing a full packing list in December.  You will also be booking a concierge call with Nina 2 weeks out from arrival to ensure that you are prepared in all the ways.

Just let us know in advance when registering and we are happy to accommodate you.  Our host venue is able to accommodate most common food allergies or dietary preferences.

We ask that any family and love one time be put on the time before the retreat or after the retreat is over.  The travel agent we have partnered with would be happy to help you make arrangements to enjoy the island.  You can connect with her at

Yes, the full experience includes the full accommodations.

Absolutely beautiful.  It is always in the 80’s and sunny.  There is a very rare occasion of a rainy day, but for the most part rain clouds roll through pretty fast.  It’s best to watch the 7-day forecast before arriving.

The pace is slower.  The people are rarely in a rush.  Most water is heated by solar energy so on overcast days the showers can be a little luke-warm.  Everything and everybody thrives on an island so be aware of the potential for bugs and spiders.   They don’t bother you…they are just passing through.

No, because the design of this retreat is to be relaxing and rejuvenating.  The idea is to stay on the hotel property and during “down time” truly set down.

If you desire to explore the island we encourage you to do so before the start of the retreat or after the end of the retreat.  The travel agent we partnered with would be happy to assist you in planning an extended stay anywhere on the island. You can reach her at
