Over the course of the last couple of weeks, there has been an increase in demand for telemental health services as we practice social distancing amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Some of us have been practicing telemental health for years and others are just venturing into this new line of work. Even if we have been practicing for a while via telemental health, I have found that because it so new, there are always new things to learn to increase the effectiveness of the work.
As more and more trauma treatment professionals are moving into telemental health services, I have heard a number of different opinions about the service. I have also had a number of people ask me my thoughts on working with trauma clients via telemental health. As a therapist offering telemental health as a services and my own experience working with a telemental health therapist, I am in favor of the services. As with most things, there are some important pieces we need to consider to make the experience as safe and effective as possible for our clients.
